Bob and Co. probably didn't realise that they had also successfully got pass Mrs. F. who was on the door for most of Saturday & Sunday with a friend taking the money!
The vast majority of people coming through the door enjoyed this two day event, the clubs being up to their usual number, but on the trade side, alas Speedline did not have a stand, although Adrian Gosling had wanted one, but was not well enough to attend for both days. He did come on Sunday and was happy to award his Shannon kit to the winning guy, so thank you Adrian for making the journey, although he was clearly not 100% well.
We were missing S&M Tools, who should be back in 2018 and Steve Pickering (Chylds Hall Model Shipyard) was unable to come this year because of temporary illness and we wish him well too. Also, one other trader although paying a holding deposit did not finally arrive, so if all these guys had come with their stands as usual, we would have had a full complement. New for 2017 were Linkspan Models and Pendle Steam and thank you to them for their support.
The 3D printed fittings, courtesy of Mark Hawkins and Shapeways, were and are a wonder to behold and I guess we will see more of these on our models in the future. The Chandlery (Bring & Buy) was a fantastic success, far exceeding expectations and previous years.
It is worth bearing in mind that this event is run entirely by volunteers on a non-profit making basis, any surplus going to charity and as some of us grow older, it would be nice if some new people (and wives perhaps?) came forward to offer their physical assistance to Jean Barlow, Secretary of the Committee. In fact, if it were not for Jean and Arthur Barlow, there would probably not be this event at all, and they can be found via the Model Boat Convention website, or by pm to ‘The Long Build’ or myself directly at Model Boats.
Mrs. F reported that one or two people came in thinking it was a horse racing event and a couple of others were looking for the Sunday Market and still paid to get in…..
The clubs as always made a great effort across the board and a big thank you to them all.
See you all next year when the theme is World War One Ships.
