      Hi All

I'm just fitted the last few parts to my St Canute tug and not sure what is the best way to cut out and mount the flag which is supplied in the kit ( Billings) .

The flag is some kind of fabric that has been printed on

Any help / ideas welcome pls

            Hi Empire Parkstone

Unfortunately not ,lol . The tug is 1:50 22" long

I'm not sure if I should paint the flag with a waterproof glue /varnish before cutting out to protect the edges

smiley Sorry timg couldn't resist that might have been better in. All things floating section. I would use pinking scissors

made for cutting fabric so it so the edges should not fray

Long time since I have bought flags, but the last ones were small and were treated to ezekote if I remember correctly.

As the flags do not “flutter” in the wind, being too stiff for the size, (unless they are really big) a coating of something like this should not detract from the look, as long as it doesnt Make them shiny.

varnishing and getting them to curve or go wavy gets my vote. It’s a personal thing of course. The flags on my Valiant  were cut from a Union flag ribbon and EzeKoted to make them stiff and emulate the originals and are a pictorial vision of how NOT to do realistic flags!

                  Hi Empire Parkstone & Ashley,

No problem I will choose more carefully next time where to post lol

I had a test cut of the material with the sharpest scissors (the wife has lol) which left it frayed in places and not sure if using varnish/glue would tain it yellow ish (I don't have any ezekote to try). Someone on the other forum recommended fray stop glue which I managed to pick up last night on my way home from work, I applied a coat to each side last night and fitted it before I went out this morning. Hopefully it will still be on when I get home…

                  Thanks for your replies 🖒

Tim pinking shears should not fray if the missus has not got a pair tell her that could be grounds for a divorce

Any clear acrylic varnish will do, failing that some diluted PVA around the edge??

                        Hi Empire Parkstone & Ashley

Definitely no pinking shears here (maybe a future gift)

And I don't have much in the way of acrylic paints at the moment ( not until my local model shop reopens anyway). Is it the oil in the humbrol paint/varnish that turns things abit yellow?

I'm happy with the outcome but always good to know about other options 🖒

                        Thanks

                        Tim
