Is it possible to fill imperfections in a styrene model before painting and if so what is the best thing to use

          Hi Tim,

If that's for your Sarik ASRL, car body filler such as Isopon P38 is a favourite for this type of model as well as wood builds.

You're getting on better than me if your getting ready to paint!

          Dave

Hi Dave, thanks for the reply I thought it might be P38 but didn't know if it is ok on styrene. I'm not ready to paint just yet but have noticed a bit of denting on the edge of the deck which I will need to repair

While you're at it, check out the markings for the portholes on the superstructure. On mine they're lower on the starboard side and not evenly spaced. I'm going to fill them and try to cut them level

Tim, P38 is a fairly commonly used filler but if your model is definitely styrene then a dedicated plastic model filler such as Tamiya putty would adhere to the plastic that bit better as the putty solvent also dissolves the surface of the plastic.

Its also that bit more convenient as it comes ready to go in a tube rather than requiring to be mixed.  I suspect it might not be as strong as a material so it depends really on the amount requiring to be filled.

Cheers Richard for the amount I have to do the putty sounds like the way forward. I see what you mean about the portholes Dave another job then

Abrade the area to be filled then grate some styrene sheet as fine as possible then mix with styrene glue/solvent . Apply glue to area to be filled then knife on the mixture . Dress back once set .

Tim , even better if you have a rasp or coarse file to produce finer particles.
