Models with electric motors are not helped by having the motors set so far forward i.e. in the cockpit along with a substantial part of the prop shaft, well in my case anyway!

I have wondered why that is Chris? Is it to keep the end of the stern tube above the normal waterline and therefore remove the risk of leaks.

Ray won't mind I am sure. I have moved the motor as far aft as I possibly can which is actually quite a lot. I made a cardboard cut-out of the motor profile to see where it will go. Another advantage to me is that I can now dispense with the forward hatch. I am happy to trade this off for a minor leak.

It would be good to know.

I think traditionally it was to enable sufficient clearance between the inside of the keel and the motor shaft. axis.

No reason why you can't mount the motor as far aft as possible really.

            Hi All,

I seem to remember a fair few debates about the angle of the prop shaft with the sadly departed DM, I recall 6 degrees being mentioned ? People are under the impression the less the angle the faster the boat, but as the H31 has trim tabs on the transom to lift the stern to aid planing, I don't think it's an exact science !! They seem to be mid engined under the cockpit to maximise the fore & aft cabin space. Any one for a "Z" drive ??

            Regards Ray (Malden today)

              Hi Ray

Yes I had a few debates with DM about prop shaft angles !!!

              I totally dislike trim tabs.

I think it is more about the forward/stern balance point of the boat.

I have change my Huntsman CG a few times to get what I feel is right.

The last time out with the boat I had it level with the water, but not much of the hull in the water at full speed.
