I have a Krick Anna and I would like to covert it to electric. It has a prop shaft and 40mm 3 blade brass prop fitted.

I am looking for recommendations for a brushless set up for this boat, please. I guess I may have to go down to a 35mm 3 blade prop?

I am planning to make a dummy steam engine etc. to cover up the motor/esc /lipo .

Thanks for looking and any thoughts are much appreciated.

I’m the wrong person to advise on this in a way because I use brushless in all my builds, even the very slow ones! But is there any reason you want to go brushless as a brushed would provide sufficient performance?

For my part I use them because I was late to the party and brushless were pretty well established and I like the quality of construction even though yes, they are more expensive.

Brushless will drive big props but I think that 40mm in such a small boat is maybe too big and I’d go for a 35mm.

Motorwise a 28mm outrunner brushless will do the job – have a look at Overlander Batteries as they do a range – you don’t need a high kV. I use theirs with HobbyWing Quicrun ESCs and they pull away and run very smoothly at low speed. Get a program card as well. I use Wheelspin Models for the ESC and program card.

This is the set up in my Fairey River Cruiser which is the same length.

          Thanks Chris,

          Thanks for your reply.

I was thinking along the same lines and so your response confirms that as a good option. Thanks for the pic.

I am used to brushless and I am thinking that a brushless set up could take up less space and will be easier to hide.

          Thanks again.

28mm brushless outrunnets, unmarked, gold…with esc..available in 1000 1400 2200 Kv are available on ebay for £20-15 quid. Forward only esc but we have been using them for years here and had no probs…even running the motors underwater in the bumper boats.

            1400kv probably what you want.

Tried to post a link to eBay but it was too long.

Look under ” brushless motor and esc combo”

Thanks Richard. This is the one I was thinking of. Your one looks like a more dedicated  aircraft type. There’s loads of different styles out there.

The griffon hovercraft i just finished used a drone specific type, very flat and with a threaded spindle that you simply use to mount the air prop on to.

                    HI

For that size prop a 750kv or less on 2S Lipo battery because that will give you about 5500 rpm.

My Eileen and Hellen  fishing boats use 540 80 turn brush motors which I have trim back the forward throttle to 50%.

This is still a bit over scale speed !!!

1000/1250 and 1450kv motors will be far over what is required.

                      Harry…the king of 9s and 10000kv motors….

750kv!!!!   .on 2s..do they make motors with such a low rating??  ( JOKE….ADULT HUMOUR)

The motor(s) wot I highlighted only goes to 1000kv lowest, so if the budget is an issue then it’s an option. I like to have a bit of oomph in reserve mind you.
