      Hi All

Pickup this started kit with all the plans, but some parts missing.

The only date found was six hours work on 8/8/1981).

This will go well with my two Hellen's and the French version(Julieth 4) which a beamer version with larger hatch and a raised section forward of the wheelhouse.

Also three windows in the front section of the wheelhouse because of the wider wheelhouse.

At least most of the hard work is done i.e. planking the hull!

              Hi Chris

The last two planks, two dam hours to install !!!

Never plank from the deck to the keel.

Start at the keel because you can use plastic clamps to hold the next plank as the glue is drying.

Also you can clamp onto the frames as well.

                Hi All

A lot of diagonal sanding on the hull to get it smooth.

Installed the prop shaft with a Teflon rear bearing and roller bearing at the motor end.

Setup the motor mount with my alignment tool .

The Raboesch 60mm 3blade D type prop( looks better than the plastic one) , the ESC and 80 turn 540 rock crawl motor arrived.

Made and installed rudder which I added a bit more area to and carry the hull lines onto the top of the rudder.

Lovely smelly day fibre glassing inside the hull and with a 32 degree day coming up it will harden up nicely!!!

I mask up the under sides of the deck where the frames glue onto and fibreglass resin the rest.

Harry. I used an epoxy resin lately and it was great, no smell and tack free once dry. Good stuff.

Added the lower rub rail before installing the deck.

Fibreglass the inside with 2 ounce cloth and rein coated the under sides of the deck, motor and radio mount.

                        Hi All

More work on the Eileen with the stern bulwarks installed and a 3mm square strengther on the inside.

All the deck planked done in three days.

Planks have had two coats of matt vanish so far.

Wheelhouse is all planked except the roof.

Still have the edge to put on around the outside of the roof.

The basic winch is glue together, also the skylight and forward access doorway.

                        Pics in a few days.

Started vanishing the wheelhouse, skylight and forward access doorway.

Also glue on one of the rub rails after steaming the wood and drying with a heat gun in 23 degree heat day.

The stern deck is held down with 10mm double magnet and slides under the bulwark stringers.32.jpg

                            35.jpg34.jpgHi All

A bit more work on the hull with the bottom and sides painted.

The Red Oxide was spray painted in four coats and rubbed back between coats.

                            All in one day !!!!!

YES, it was 41 that day.

Painted the sides at one side with three coats and left for two days then painted the other side.

Still have the water trim paint and rub rails to do, also the top sides.

Added all the top railing today which was missing from the kit.

Started fast planking the wheelhouse roof this morning with Jarrah( a very dark wood) and the kit Mahogany.

It look a little boring with only the Mahogany strips.

Will post the fast planking in another post with pics of course.

I see what you mean about the mahogany planking, difficult to see the individual planks.

could the sides have been either painted or marker-pen d before sticking together to show off the planking more?

                                  Hi Ashley

Try the black biro(look too kit like for a fishing boat) and a marking pen bleeds over the edge which looks crappy.

The darker Jarrah wood gives it a nice contrast on the roof(see fast planking post).

I used blackwood for a contrast on the wheelhouse sides.

                                    Hi Harry,

She is looking very good, my tip for planking with the line drawn on with ink draughting pen is to use water based varnish which leaves the timber much lighter

Have a good holiday. The way you describe it you must coming to the UK??

Ray I am staying in the warm weather !!!!

More work on the boat with the hull fully painted.

Started on the masts, added the wheelhouse windows.

                                      Still more bits to addon.

Oh, I must connect the shaft to the motor and added the brass water stirrer !!!

Hi Harry – years ago Graupner produced ready made planking in Balsa sized sheets usually 100mm by 1m . They produced that by gluing 5 or 6 sheets of Mahogany /Red Cedar then 1 of Obeche and so on – veneer thickness slices were cut across the sides producing the planking effect with the Obeche as the caulking..Believe they made in different planking widths but only ever found the one size which was very effective on small cabin cruisers etc .That gave me an idea………

So having found some thin basswood (1/32&quot at the local shop cut that into very thin strips and used that on edge as caulking with later type deck planking strips from Billings. Worked well. Also tried Obeche as caulking because there were a few planks on hand – also looked good

Then read the instructions from Dumas on a 16' Chris Craft "Utility" boat (the kit for which was passed on to a fellow member of our club when he lost most of his boats in a fire) What they suggested was using plasticard strips as caulking. Made sense as they also suggested you stain the mahogany planking after fitting and obviously the plastic would not take the stain. Tried that on a small plastic RTR Riva type – used plastic cement to glue the wood & plasticard strips – still holding many years later . Also worked well.

On a small scale Billings Lilla Dan used thin white card strips as "caulking" with the mahogany planking supplied .Very very fiddly but quite effective – not quite right as the planking itself is too dark .

So there are a lot of choices out there – thicker black card works well for fishing boats where they use a tar like substance as caulking – all the local 1/1 fishing boats have decks caulked with it for instance.(heated, poured , then trimmed with a trowel/knife before it cooled completely)

Final ballasting and maiden voyage on Saturday.

Also hoping to get a DM boat into the water for it's maiden voyage as well.

It's has been a big push the last few weeks to get the boat finish of a surprise for one our club members.

With another four boats on the go, it's been all full on.

Finished a Wave master which was an easy restoration project.

Working a on a wooden Huntsman which is 90% finished.

An old speed boat (ex IC) but as an old cool look.

An Ex Perkasa wooden hull which was heading to tip.

A club member said it's fire wood !!!

I said I will get it back in the water!!!

                                                  Hi Harry –

quite sure you will get it back on the water – you probably need the case of beer in that heat.

If you need a drawing of the Perkasa might have in my archives – know I have an article somewhere

I ended up with two Perkasa 1/35 scale plastic kits – one a Tamiya and the other an identical Chinese copy – not sure how that happened…………….

                                                    56.jpg55.jpgHi redpmg

I have two Precedent Perkasa's with the original booklets and the plan of the Brave Border.

So I will pass on your offer, thanks.

But I do have PDF plans of other boats and well as access to our club archives.

So back to the Eileen fishing boat.

Had a ballast test this morning in the sheltered inlet at the canal.

As from the pics it was not good idea to test the boat out it the rough stuff.

Call into another more sheltered spot for the test voyage.

Will have to cut the throttle back to 70-75% as it's speed would out run a flower corvette !!!

The brakes (reverse) works very well and pulls the boat up very quickly.

Handy with some of club steerers!!!!
