      Has anyone considered
using a old cordless drill motor for a boat and the trigger for the
speed controller. I have mounted one on a board and connected a servo
to the trigger. It will need some sort of servo saver device. The
motor has these markings RS-550-7527. it was a 14 volt GMC. I
am looking at making a PT boat 1 : 32 scale. I will be posting some
      video soon. Comments anybody????

I’ve used such a drill motor and set up for some years to run a miniature rope walk (saves turning the handle by hand). What really surprised me was the power consumption, almost 2W with little load.
Because its “land based” i still use it with old lead acid batteries but have not considered them for boat power units due to size, weight, power and revs. These are high torque motors and require big batteries.

Unless you can modify the gearbox heavily you’ll probably find that the unit is incapable of producing any useful speed for the sort of model you are planning. You’d need to be looking at 8000RPM+. Have you also considered how you are going to reverse it?
If you enjoy mucking about with things like this then go ahead – have some fun, but if ’twere me I’d junk it and buy a “proper” motor and electronic speed controller. Less hassle. To put what Kimosubby says another way, if it wasn’t for the fact that this is totally unsuitable for a model boat power plant (size, weight, power and revs) then it would be ideal………………
