I can understand the 750 labour cost, as the chap is or was acting as, a professional restorer. Not sure where the 550 came from for parts.
That they sold it for 750 I think reflects on the purchaser who simply wanted it as decoration for his business, in which case he was prepared to pay that much for the look of it (as it was never going to sail) and likely put it down as a business expense.
The other program where they take items from peoples sheds and refurbish/repurpose them oddly just the other day had a sea queen and they spent 100 on it, and it looked very nice…not FANTASTIC, but very nice, and quite a transformation from rhe ‘As found’ state, and sold for 150. The difference here being the labour cost was not included and they did it up solely with a view to make money.
Ultimately, if you add the cost of your time at..20? 30.? 40?. Pounds an hour then almost anything you could make would not return a profit, however its a hobby and you don’t do it for the money.
Some remuneration by mb for my articles is nice, but generally only covers the cost of materials and a new battery now and then. A free boat build essentially.
Speaking of articles, my list says I have had 38 in the mag so far!
