I'd like to build Shaw Savill liner Dominion Monarch. Anyone suggest a lead as to where scale plans can be located?

The London Science Museum have a superb builder's model of the ship but unfortunately it is no longer on display since they closed their maritime gallery last year. I believe they may have extensively photographed the models before putting them into storage though.

There is an excellent 1:1200 scale waterline model plan in John Bowen's book Miniature Merchant Ships

          **LINK**

which, taken together with decent photos of the Science museum model would be enough to construct a decent larger size working model although the underwater lines would need to be extrapolated.

There was an article with small scale plan in The Motorship dated March 1939 and according to John Bowen, the National Maritime Museum hold general arrangements plans of the ship following her 1947-48 refit.

          What are you waiting for?!

Extrapolated….does this mean "made up" ???

I believe they did photograph the collection, not sure whether it is "on line" yet?

A few photos does me normally (plans not usually available for what I want to build!)

              Ashley,

Extrapolated means that you use what you have to work out the rest! If you have photographs of the underwater hull shape (from a builder's model) then it's not too difficult to do this, especially if you have a body plan from another typical ship of the period as hull lines for liners tended to be much of a sameness.

My Granada below was made from a 1:1200 scale plan

                    Oooooooh !! angry 2

Very nice Colin. Put a couple of extra props on , paint it black and the rear end could easily be the Titanic. Popular style of course then, the counter stem or whatever it is (cant remember)

I like the devotion to model boating displayed by the boat shaped CD holder.

                      Richard:

Liners from that period mostly had the same hull profiles and so extrapolating sufficient information to produce your own drawings should be fairly straight forward.

                      Colin:

Its nice to see one of your models.

                      Ashley:

You are going to have to work on your 'hardboard' image.

Paul. Only one person bangs on about my hardboard exploits, which are obviously legend, especially after the 10th telling.

Lets face it, ANYONE can make something out of wood…but hardboard?? that's a MANs material.
