      Hi,

I have the Futaba 6ex transmitter and for my last model boat I purchased another R617FS receiver. These receivers are very expensive for just 2 channel operation. Does anyone have any experience of using cheaper version receivers with this transmitter.

      Thank you for any advice.

I have now sold the system and changed to a Planet T5 which I am very pleased with and is working well.

Does anyone know if the 2 aerials on the Futaba R617FS can be extended WITHOUT soldering for use in model boats. All the 6 and 7 channel Transmitters only seem to mention ACROs (planes) and Helicopters they never include boats. Unless you want to downgrade to a 2 channel system.

Unless they are plug in items, and nothing in the advertising or on line instructions says so, no. They are very fine coax cables. A characteristic of coax (and most other cable types) is that the loss over the length increases with the length, so even if a good match for the type was found, a longer one would reduce the sensitivity and range.

Hi Neville, so long as the antennas are up above the waterline, even better mount the receiver in the cabin area, up high, assuming it's not a carbon fiber hull, keep the antennas 90 degrees apart then your range will be fine, mine goes so far as to need a turn to find which way it is pointing. I have just bought a Cooltec receiver from Banggood, £16 for 8 channels Futaba compatible, works just like the real thing, only 1/3rd the price

                    Hi Mark.

Well i am intending to put it in the cabin area anyway. The hull is a GRP I don't think that will cause a problem unless that is what you mean by a Carbon Fiber. Where do I find Banggood?

Hi , first post and not sure if I should have started a new thread but…. My Futaba receiver has two antenna`s that have to be at 90* to each other. Can I run these down each side of the hull without the need for two external aerials ?

It depends what your hull is made of.

If it's metal, or Carbon Fibre, or anything that shields RF radiation, your aerials need to be uncovered. If it's wood, plastic, GRP, glass-fibre or anything that lets RF through, they can be completely enclosed in the hull.

It's generally a good idea to have the aerials as high up as possible. There is some concern that if you have a receiver well under the water-line then it might not get enough signal if it's 2.4Ghz, since that frequency does not pass through water very well. But other people have said that they have not found low aerials to be a problem…

Thanks, the hull is abs vac formed and the two aerials will be above the water line. If I ditched this TX/RX (it is 2.4Ghz) and went for as receiver with a single antenna would it be wise or not, to fit an external aerial?
