          John,

Had a search around for this one and found this thread re: Sovereign Models on the Paddleducks website/ forum for paddler model builders. It would appear the company were in business in 1991 as MMI featured the Sovereign Models paddle steamer kit 'Danube' in the June edition. The thread discusses the Lady Sarah kit, unfortunately it gives the company and it's kits not the best of write -ups.

          Hope this helps,

          Tony

            Tony,

Mmm… Not very good reading on the Hull for the Lady Sarah and the demise of the company.

However on the positive side this will make this kit a rarity and looking at my Hull, its looks pretty good with no twists for it's narrow length and the sides look even.

What also like about this kit is the working ''Electric'' steam plant.!.face 22

Will post pictures of build when I finish my current project a scratch build Springer Tug.

            Thanks for info'

Perhaps the model maker on Paddleducks had a 'one off' bad hull, who knows!

Must say the idea of an electric steam plant does sound interesting, looking forward to seeing this at a future date.

All the best with this build albeit in the future.

              Tony.

Just started build, but first some pics of the kit.

Some info' 1/12 scale. 45 inch Length x 7 1/4 inch beam. Came with a good plan plus a good comprehensive build plan.

Now remember this came from e-bay so I was not expecting the kit to be such good condition. But what a surprise full kit no missing pieces, no damage (box a bit faded for its age). So a very happy bunny so far…thumbs up

                  Need a little help?

Written on the plans ''Recommended motor Mabuchi 385''

Actual motor size on the plans is more like a 540.

Given the size of the boat is 45 inches long I think a 540 motor is probably the right size?

However given the boat is leisure boat which motor should I fit?

                  Any advice would be welcome..

I'd fit one of these. More torque and less speed than a stock 540 **LINK**

                                Dave,

Won't the Mabuchi 555 be overloaded with a 2 inch prop (noting that no load rpm is 6,000) ? Obviously the motor shaft rpm can be reduced with a reduction gearbox. (I experimented with a 3 bladed 50 mm prop and measured power from battery at about 30 watts with propeller rotating at approx 3000 rpm)

I have one of these motors in my Midwest Boothbay Lobster Boat, which is 30" long but very beamy (12"-ish). It has a 3-blade 50mm plastic prop and I run it on twelve cells (14.4v). I sailed it for over an hour at Wicksteed and there was no hint of it slowing down (except when I got weed around the prop) or heating up the batteries, motor or ESC.
John's model is longer but slimmer, so we're somewhere in the same county. It's possible that a 4-blade prop might be a bit excessive but there's only one way of finding out. Plastic props are cheap enough. It's for sure that the 555 is more suitable than the recommend 385, which would be overpropped on a 4×50, or a stock 540, which would be too fast and current-hungry.
John could always go for a 775! **LINK**

Many of the scale type plastic props have a very fine pitch so don't tend to overload motors as much as you think they might. Years ago I used to find that the smaller Graupner plastic props were too fine and I used to tweak them in boiing water to increase the pitch – it worked too!

                                      Colin,

Just had a quick look at the propellers on the Cornwall Model Boats website. It would appear that plastic propellers have a pitch roughly half the diameter of the prop – so a fairly fine pitch as you said and therefore present less of a torque load on the motor at any given rpm. For most brass propellers the pitch and diameter are approximately equal (typically the pitch is just a few mm less than the diameter). Whilst I was aware of the details for brass propellers I was unaware of the typical diameter/pitch ratio for plastic propellers. I have only used brass propellers in my model boats.

The maker of the model is my father and Soverign Models ceased (long story). Interested in hearing/seeing more updates. My father is 77 years old, still a hobby model maker. My sister Sarah is the Lady Sarah!

That looks like a very nice kit. But the motor looks a little out of line with the prop shaft currently.
