This is just me, but I’ve never understood the consuming interest in the modelling world for warships.  They’re all long, thin and grey!  They have various bits sticking out, only an expert can tell the difference! They have 6″ or 12″ armament – whooppee – they look the same!
SA radar,SS radar, sidescan, etc etc …………..who cares?
They serve no useful purpose in this world, they consume precious resouces and they’re boring, boring, boring!!
Dont get me started on submarines…
Pierre -buckling on flak jacket and running for cover!

Ps -no flames please -just because I’m not interested in warships, tell me why you are!

What is it that the americans say…”duck and cover”….Its a good job that you are so far away or you might have a slightly vexed mob (well 2 of them) outside your house.

My views of fishing boats and tugs are moderately well known, they are boring and I can only tell them apart if they are different colours. Like boring blue, boring red, bopring brown, you get the idea. Give me gray anytime, or black, or camo, or white`n`buff or or or    anytime.    Ashley    (for another viewpoint)

              Long? Thin?? Grey???

Proper warships are short, fat and a delightful combination of black, white and buff…

How could you not like that!

Rick – I do like that!!  It looks like a 19th century passenger liner – not a gun in sight!
I love sailing ships – I could easily be persuaded to model something like your picture – what is it by the way?
                Cheers – Pierre

HMS Inflexible (1876-1903) – and she definitely had guns – four 81-ton 16″ muzzle-loading rifles, the heaviest guns of any ship in the Royal Navy. Because of their length, they could not be reloaded from inside the turrets. Reloading was done using hydraulic rams fitted outside of the turrets. To reload the guns, the turret was rotated to align the guns with the rams, and the guns depressed so that the rams could push the charge and shell into it. Loading took between two-and-a-half and four minutes.

She was originally equipped with a pair of masts and yards, but the amount of sail that could be deployed would hardly move the ship and was only there to help exercise and train the crew. The masts and sails were removed after four years in service, and replaced by the military masts shown in my picture

What is wrong with subs? they don’t all look the same, look at M1, and the challange is to make them work 2m underwater.

Tugs are great little boats, you should hang your head in shame when you go sailing today.

Paul, tug free zone in our house!   Took Shorty and the HBA Dv111 Mk1(a)  today to the pond. went well, until Berengar broke the tail on the HBA..      I managed to break TWO props on Shorty whilst, er, swiping past the jetty. …..but replaced easily with on-board spares. Hi Rick
I recently bought a second hand book “War at Sea in the Ironclad Age” by Richard Hill.  i hadn’t got round to reading it yet but your picture prompted me to look up the “Inflexible”.  Apparently she had instructions to ditch all masts and sails if she went into action!!  Just as well it took several minutes to load one of those muzzle loaders, I wonder how long it would have taken to ditch the sailing gear? Quite a fascinating book, transition period between sail and steam!

Went sailing today -took classic sailing cutter, modern tug and vintage Slo_Mo_Shun. Oh and an IOM hull that someone wanted to buy. Thought that was a good spread of interests.
Paul, we have several submarine enthusiasts in our club – they dont often submerge their models as the water is extremely murky. So these models spend most of their time cruising on the surface. I admire the ingenuity of these models but the engineering leaves me cold. And yes, apart from superficial  differences they do all look the same to me  cigar shaped with a conning tower!
                          Cheers – Pierre

it sailed once , sank once and spent the rest of it’s time being used as a door stop. when i asked her where i should put it her reply was…………………well it looks like a supposetory………you can shove it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

After the sinking of the M1 & M2 the navy gave up on special types.

                                                  Thanks.neil.
