      Hi ARH
Had a look at your albums – very impressive!
Correct me if I’m wrong, but your models, North Carolina, Moffet Build and Bryony, all warships, all grey, pointy  and similar!
As for building a Slo-Mo-Shun, why not try? – get out of your comfort zone of warships!
      Cheers – Pierre

Why do some people have to question other people’s interests? Some like to build warships, and do it very well. If you can’t tell them apart, perhaps you need your eyes tested. Saying they all look the same is rather like saying that all cars look the same.

Ashley apparently doesn’t like tugs or fishing vessels, I can’t think why, but that’s his choice and I respect it.

I happen to like most types of boats, with the exception of fast electrics and IC powered boats. That is my choice, and I would hope others accept and respect that choice.

Having said that, if I see a well made fast boat I can appreciate the workmanship, it’s just that I have no desire to build one.

Just to throw a spanner in to the works I have recently had the opportunity to review some proposed designs of the next generation of surface warships and they are neither long, thin nor grey.

              Well said, Peter.
It would be a very boring world indeed if we all built exactly the same thing, bought exactly the same car and lived in the same place!!!!
              1984 springs to mind?

Good God, lighten up please, this originally started as a humorous post – I originally asked why people found warships interesting – still haven’t had an intelligent reply!
Because I don’t find them interesting doesn’t mean I don’t admire the people who build them!
Personally, I don’t give a c**p what you build, I’m only interested in what build!
ARH – get a sense of humour (and a spell checker)

sorry pierre, but after certain postings not long ago, i thought we weren’t supposed to have any humour on the site any more.
                  chastizement taken.
i shall lighten up once again and join in with the frevolity.
as for the spell checker…IT’S WRONG. it don’t spell da werds like i doo.

I LIKE to see most types of model boats but life is too short to build examples of all of them so, just as everyone elses does, I have particular preferences on what I actually build. As for the others, well, I just admire them.

Neil, there are no rules against humour on the website – except that it has to be funny!

I’ve never understood the consuming interest in the modelling world for warships.
and it didn’t seem particularly humorous to me, even if you meant it to be.

Its a perception thing really, I always like assume any post is written with a certain amount of humour, coz thats what I`m like. I have not seen an over serious post from Pierre, and so immediately assume he is on a wind up with a thread like this. Per se, my dislike for tugs and fishing boats.. I dont REALLY dislike them, I have used them for comic interjections to garner an appropriate response on certain other threads. They are not subjects I personally find particularly interesting, but thats just my personal taste and personal opinion.
Gosh, that was a serious post!   Ashley

I think that the problem here is the forum has a core membership that shares a common sense of humour and whilst we might find each others comments funny other, more serious members might not and probably struggle to understand our sometimes oblique comments.

ArneS made a comment about a humorous clique which I have been pondering and now I see that ARH also has some concerns about visiting the forum.

If we are putting off members of ARH’s capabilities then we should really be considering the content of our prose before we press the “add posting” button.

I think the problem comes about when a posting is completely humour and doesn’t address the topic of the thread at all. I cant for the life of me see the problem with a posting with technical content and humour. How ever some threads have had a series of postings that were what could only be described as banter and had no relevance to the intention of the thread, I can understand how it comes about and can also see that it could piss off the more serious members of the forum.
                                Cheers.
                                David.

Well said Paul, and quite right too. You should never make assumptions on a public Forum – quite frequently they are wrong and a lot of misunderstandings do flow from that. By all means direct bandinage at people you know will accept it in the spirit is meant. But where this is not the case you do need to be more circumspect and if you do inject humour then make it explicit and not pointed, i.e. laugh at yourself first – after all it isn’t difficult!

We don’t want to give the wrong impression to newcomers, this is supposed to be a valuable model boating forum – not an old gents coffee morning!  (joke!)

TFC, What gets me at times is this , you have not spelt that correctly, like {speck] that should have been spec, late at night the brain is not always working to full capacity.

I enjoy a little banter, like the next guy, but I can not stand people that pick you up on small errors.

I can see all points here, but I do have to add one point.
As a dyslexic….I do have trouble with spelling, and on a serious note, it is a little insulting, when you have gone through life, gain a degree, spend 22 years teaching CDT only for another member to tell you that your spelling is not upto what it should be.
I am not accusing anyone of accusing me personally, but there are others on the forum that to be quite honest, are as bad as me at spelling, but I would never ever consider telling them so,nor do I find it a problem, niether as  I do not know their own background.education level I wouldn’t even consider such an insult to them or their person..
Even the most educated can spell badly, so lets leave it at that. thankyou.
