      Hi,

What is the preferred method of fixing servo's into a GRP Hull, there doesn't seem to be any brackets available that you can fix permanently then clip the servo in to.

The only way I can think of is make a wooden support then fix the servo to that.

      Phil.

The problem is that there are so many different shapes and sizes of GRP hull. This is the method used by Model Slipway. It's easy and cheap to make. The servo is a firm sliding fit into the box; there's no need to screw it down as long as it doesn't wobble about.

Sorry, Mike, but £5.63??? Plus £3.50 P&P!! Total is £9.13 – that would buy FOUR standard servos from a well-known Hong Kong supplier – with change. http://www.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking/store/__28688__HobbyKing_HK15138_Standard_Analog_Servo_38g_4_3kg_0_17s_UK_Warehouse_.html
Good luck, Graupner. You'll forgive me for not joining the queue for these. http://www.wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/201561/

hi got any pics of your boat where the servos are going ? you could wrap the servo in masking tape and soloflex them in not the stuff from diy stores we stick our marine windows in without screws ,I’ve done this on many RC aircraft it works …… Mark

I'm afraid I don't understand your posting. The lack of punctuation is confusing and I can't find a link to any likely product of that name or similar. For example Soloflex seems to be a type of exercise machine while Solarflex is roof paint. You say that what you use is not the stuff from diy stores so can you clarify what exactly this product that you use is and where we might buy it, please? An Internet link would be ideal.

I usually simply epoxy a couple of pieces of spruce or lime stripwood across the hull at the required height and spacing and simply screw or bolt the servo between them. Easy to remove if you ever need to.

                      See pic below.

Sikaflex is good stuff but it is pretty permanent, if going down that route then ordinary silicone sealant might be better as it can be removed more easily should it be necessary.

The tried, tested and much used method is exactly as Colin has posted. It’s been used in countless grp hulls. It only takes a little time to do. It’s neat, you can remove a servo easily, and you can change the position if you need to. As the old saying goes, do it right, do it once.

as a cheap alternative you could use the servo bracket side mount dave, at £1.42

I didn't see that one, Mike, but the job isn't one I'd buy anything especially for. Anyroad up, m'duck, who's to say that the clip will fit my particular servo exactly? If I have to modify a commercial fitting before I can use it then that rather defeats the point of buying it – which is to save work. If I make my own mount from styrene, plywood or hardwood beams then it's bound to fit. QED.

Most of my servos are mounted in little boxes made from plywood and balsa (as per previous drawing) and wedged in with a bit of card. Not had an issue yet with this. Does it for me.
