Hi, don't really understand your 'App' question but, for what I know in 1940 the displacement was 48,360 Long Tons (not to be confused with 'Te' – metric tonnes) – at full battle load. hope this helps…

Divide the weight of the real thing by the cube of the scale, multiply that by 2240 to change the model weight from tons to pounds. There is a nice calculator provided with Windows, it even does scientific for big numbers.

According to Graupner's website **LINK** the approximate weight of the ARTR HMS Hood is +/- 12 kilos. Going by the formula suggested by Malcolm Frary, this comes in a tad under scale weight, which, if I'm doing the maths correctly, should be roughly 14,5 kilos.

Ah, but "running operations require an additional ballast weight of approx 4Kg" so the answer is nearer 16Kg.

It's sad to see a once mighty modelling firm reduced to flogging Chinese plastic ARTFs which won't even be in stock until next April. Johannes G will be turning in his grave.

Indeed! I also saw the remark on the website about an additional 4 kg ballast weight required for running operations, although it is a tad difficult, I would say, to know how to interpret this information in conjunction with the phrase "All-up weight, approx.: 12000 g"/"Gesamtgewicht ca.: 12000 g", i.e. whether by that phrase they mean the total weight out of the box or the total weight including additional ballast … ?!

Point taken! I guess it's a case of slinging it into the 'oggin and seeing if it sinks – but carefully.……..

Sling it in, see what it looks like, decide if its setting out fully loaded or coming back empty, most of the fuel having been used, and the rum ration expended.
