      Hello all,

I’m new to the forum, been building boats for about 20 years.

I was wondering if anyone knows whether there was ever a build article on the Vic Smeed design Vivacity?

She was a 54″ cabin cruiser designed probably in the late 50’s, I have the plan but would like to read any information that might be out there.

Incidentally does anyone know how Vic is doing these days?

      Thanks very much,

      Cheerio for now,

      Deano.

Vic was fine when I had some contact with him earlier this year. He is over 90 now and has returned to making model aircraft.

That’s great news. The man is a national treasure, and I’m not just saying that because he is an ex RAF brother.

It’s about time his KBE came up in my opinion.

Although I don’t know of a Vivacity article If you are a subscriber to Model Boats magazine you have access to all the uploaded online material which may well contain some articles on other Vic Smeed models.

The number of the Vivacity plan suggests that it was published sometime between 1957 and 1959. My stock of old issues doesn’t go back that far I’m afraid!

Thanks for the information chaps. I think it’s time I became a subscriber, as at the moment I buy from the newsagent.

I also didn’t know that the plan numbers relate to the era printed, I would be interested to know how that works.

                  Thanks again,
                  Deano.

It doesn’t ‘work’ as such! It’s just that plans tended to be incrementally numbered so the number provides a clue as to when a particular plan was published. If you have a collection of old issues then it is possible to bracket the period when a certain plan number was published and work it out from there if you have the issues available.

There is no central record as the Plans Service has changed ownership more than half a dozen times since it was originally established and continuity of paperwork has been lost.

I see Colin, thanks for explaining that. It makes the preservation of old copy collections even more important as our only source of information.
