The Jenny Wren

I am currently following the refurb of this famous yacht which is currently in watchet marina. thought some of you would be interested in fotos as the work progressed. I`m on good talking terms with the owner and he has the original drawings so with luck I may get a copy(providing i give a helping hand now and again) most of the fotos will be on my profile but heres a few anyway,

What's the history of the Jenny Wren, Captain?

I remember a model, made by a Bury member a few years back, with the same name

Not sure of the full history yet bob but the first foto i put up is a brief outline of her history which the owner has put on the guard fence in front of the bow. I think I know the model you are on about I saw something in an old magazine about the plan but that was a yacht named "jenny". not sure iff its the same one though. but it got me thinking anyway.

I remember reading about Harley Mead in Classic Boat some years ago and there is quite a lot to be found if your Google 'Harley Mead yacht designer Jenny Wren', in particular the site of Sandeman Yacht Company, where there is a particularly fine set of photos taken when the yacht was in a lovely condition. Hopefully the present owner will want to bring her back to something like that.

It will be very interesting if you post photos of progress from time to time, Cap'n!

no problem with the fotos ian, i`m in watchet quite often,either fishing or just out with dog. I`ll have a look at that site "sandeman" I expect the owner would be quite interested in the original colours. I`m waiting for him to start "up top" and hopefully get some tidy fotos of the interior. Wouldn`t mind climbing the rat lines too.

well its been a week since my last visit so went down the marina yesterday. The weathers been quite kind so as you can see he`s done a bit of painting on the hull. More fotos available on my albums.

I was just seeing if there was anything on the internet about Jenny Wren when I came across this blog. I first sailed on her in late 1958/early 1959 when it belonged to my uncle who lived in Cape Town. In those days it had a mizzen mast, guard rails and heavy canvas sails. If you are still seeking information about the yacht from when my uncle acquired it in the early 1950s until be sold it about 20 years later please let me know. I have very fond memories of the boat such that if it came up for sail I would be sorely tempted to purchase it.
