      It is all very relevant Charles, our models depict the full size originals and the associated history brings them to life and informs our readers. The personal information about your Grandfather I found fascinating. Was his widow really denied a pension because there was no body? That sounds incredible to me.

        Hi colin

        apologies for the long delay in replying. Yes – absolutely true. My understanding is a stuka managed to put a bomb into the magazine so there was quite a big explosion and he went down wioth the boat. the rule then was no body no pension – its probably as bit like payouts on life insurance!.

        My grandmother really struggled to bring up two small boys with no pension but she was resourceful and managed. The were 4 and 2 when he was killed.
