Whilst gathering materials etc for my build of the HDML I have discovered a company who will supply large sheets of styrene at very reasonable prices i.e. 1mm thick 1372 x 660mm for £3.41 inc vat. The only down side is the delivery charge is £12.50 so to make it worth while I ordered 5 sheets of various thicknesses total inc carriege £35 a bit more than I intended to pay but I have enough sheet material to keep me going for a very long time without having to purchase silly little A4 sheets at over a £1.00 to £2.00 per sheet. Delivery is good I placed my order on the net on Sunday, recieved email confirmation of delivery next day and received goods on Tuesday.

For those that may be  interested the company website is http://www.plasticstockist.com they are part of Bay Plastics Ltd.

As a foot note I found this site by searching the web after a certain specialist model supplier who advertises large sheets of plastic did not respond to either my phone message or my email request after several days. I won’t name the company as there maybe a good reason they didn’t reply but I have my suspicions.

          Doh.

Wish I had read this post yesterday. I have just ordered several much smaller pieces from a well known model shop at considerably more money than this. I will certainly make a note of where to go next time. Many thanks.

Glad to pass the info on Gary. Bay Plastics sell sheets in smaller or larger sizes than I purchased as well as other types of plastic material. The styrene is available in assorted colours too.

Am I missing something here? I have looked at plasticstockist.com and I cannot find styrene. Is it under some other name?

                Hello Robin,

Styrene sheet is found under High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) in the Vacuum Forming Plastics section.

                Hope this helps.

                  Hi Dave,
OK found it. I had not realised that styrene/plasticard were High Impact Polystyrene. Very useful tip – I have book marked it ready for my next purchase.
                  Thanks
                  Robin

                    Hi Robin,
                    Glad to be of help.
I must admit I was a bit unsure about HIPS until I read the details on the web site.

                    All the best
                    Dave
