        Hi Peter,

This boat is elusive to say the least,I tried Google and no luck.

Should we know this boat? Is it Sail/Steam, Passenger/Cargo?.

        Regards,

          Len

          Hi Len

Yes, the plans are in the Hobby Store range. Classed as an attractive Far Eastern coastal steamer. Traded around the Islands of North Borneo when we had, dare I say it, a Chartered Company overseeing North Borneo end of 19th begining of 20th Century. Came to grief on rocks off Semporna, North Eastern Borneo. Don’t Know when yet but she was still afloat in 1936. If anyone has more info. I would be very interested. Thanks Len for your interest.

            Hi Peter,

I think one of the most interesting part of our hobby is the research, you can really find out interesting bits of history if you take a chance.

I tried Google too and found only the few data you already have on Kinabalu. The search for the company proved no more successful, but found a company named "Yayasan Sabah Shipping", the street address is 88817 Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, the fax number 608-8426755 (I don´t know if the country code is included). It´s a veeery long shot, but maybe it´s worth risking a fax, you never know.

             Enjoy your research!

              Hi again,

If Kinabalu was built in Australia, it was acquired by the Straits Shipping Company in 1947.

Try http://www.merchantnavyofficers.com/straits3.html. There´s also a follow on chapter to this one, but I don´t know if it mentions Kinabalu. There´s also a picture of her.

                And again!

You can find the Straits Steamship Company house flag at http://www.nmm.ac.uk/collections/explore/object.cfm?ID=AAA0379

                 Cheers!

                  But finally

There´s a book here: http://www.selectbooks.com.sg/getTitle.cfm?SBNum=35834. I would try http://www.bookfinder.com to see if there´s a used copy somewhere else, they´re much cheeper!

                      Hi Guido

Thanks for all that information. Starting to go through it! The photogragh is of the ship I want to model, so I can see it has a black hull, white lifeboats and if it was part of the "Straights Shipping Company" then I have the funnel colours and house flag, just need to know where it was registered. But wow what help. Will be looking into other info. you’ve given me, many many thanks. Will let you know any other info. I get on this thread. And thanks Neil, have not checked the site but am about to do so. Will let you all know where it ends. Inc. a photo of finished model. If anyone can fill any gaps, it will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers to all who are following this reaserch……Peter
