      Hi folks,

Being a big fan of Fairey marine products, Huntress, Huntsman, Swordsman etc and seeing there is a strong liking on here for them in model boating circles, I was wondering if anyone had built a model of the Solent Spear, seeing as it shares it's hull design/shape with the Faireys of yesteryear?

Not just the Solent Spear, has anyone built any models of a full sized boat that has a hull design shared/based upon any of the Fairey range?

      Thanks in advance
      Will

          Hi Will

Never say never, but I think it unlikely. Most modellers tend to build the classic Faireys that were timber rather than the later GRP. A lack of drawings doesn't help.

I do like some of the later designs, revivals and boats built on Fairey or similar hulls but I've got enough on my plate with the classic stuff!

Have you seen UKMikes build on Mahem for a Huntsman Aft Cabin Becomes a Sports Fisherman?

Chris, I totally agree and understand it was a long shot. But, unless you ask, you don't know.

Yes, I have seen UKMikes build and as much as I like a Fairey to look like a Fairey, his build does look very good and nice to sometimes see a variation from the norm too.

I will have to keep hunting and see if I can find any drawings for the Solent Spear. Could be a(nother) project for the future, if I can find anything.

It wouldn't be too difficult to produce drawings as I think the Spear, as with the Spearfish, used a hull design based on the Huntsman 31.

So then just a case of producing them for the superstructure and deciding how to go about building it. Some good photos around to help with that. The windows particularly and roof will be a challenge!

                Yeah, that's true enough.

I know it's a modern 'plastic boat', but due to the Fairey link, it still appeals to me and maybe one day, I wouldn't mind having a go at replicating it in a scaled down form, obviously in RC form, so that it can be used as well.

Thanks for your thoughts on this Chris.
