Hi Bob, good to hear from you again, how are things going with you?

Great shot, I once had a model sink but nothing as special as the one in your picture. Did the owner retrieve it?

I must admit it looks very realistic, could use it as a Moby Dick book cover photo!

Hi Richard,

A shipmate of mine bullt it, plank on frame. It sailed well, but the main hatch came off and down it went. We had been diverted to Antwerp for discharge by a Southampton dock strike. 22 of us, skeleton crew for a 27,000 ton passenger liner – Very eerie with no-one about in the passenger spaces.

We recovered it next day with string & grapple. I am pretty much "washed up" these days. Allergic to glue fumes and aches and pains from coughing etc.

Can't see me building many more models, now aged 79.

I think some of the strangest times I had at sea was either going to or coming from a dry dock on a passenger ship with no passengers! We had some good bridge wing Bar-B-Qs though!
