Hi Rick Identifying the thread should not be an unsermountable task, essentially you need the outside diameter of the threaded part and the pitch ( that is the distance from one thread to the next).
A verneer guage would be my tool of choice, the diameter no prob. the pitch I would measure the length between say 5 turns of the thread, then do the math
the look up these dimentions on thread tables, a few are on this site (top banner right side) this should give you a good idea of thread (you may need to have your data in both inches and mm, model engineering thread is either 32 or 40 threads per inch, while metric is 0.04 to 2.5 mm pitch dependant on diameter) **LINK**
