      Nothing to do with boats.

Coming back with my dog Indy this morning from his walk and a lot of ball chasing on the cricket pitch I passed the Car Park to see an aluminum can next to the bin. Picked it up,bput it in the bin, walked 10 feet, another can, back to bin. Walking along the road to the next bin ( 100 yards) 3 more cans and a beer bottle. At the bin someone has picked up their dog mess in a bag, tied it and dropped it near the bin. So that’s 5 cans, 1 bottle, 1 dog bag in 100 yards!

We taught our 3 sons to put litter in the bin or your pocket until you pass one or take it home, they have all done the same with their kids

Can it be so hard to use the many bins that are around now?

Rant over. I feel a bit better now!

We have the same rant frequently, not so much where we live, which is very rural, although we do get the occasional fridge dumped in a dyke, but when out driving on major A roads.  The roadside litter makes me think of driving around third world countries.  Personally I think we should utilise prisoners to pick it up, but I’m sure that would be some sort of human rights infringement, but it totally blows my mind that people think this is appropriate behaviour to simply dump rubbish out of a vehicle window.

As with you Tim, I was taught to hold on to it until I reached the next bin or take it home.  One problem we see nowadays is bins overflowing because councils do not empty them frequently enough.  That seems to give some people the green light to dump more rubbish next to the bin.  Why does it not occur to them to take it home?  I can only assume too many people nowadays have no respect for their surroundings and the reasons for that are probably best not discussed here.

Is it the same in other countries?

Not been abroad for a few years but don’t remember it being dirty or littered.

We went to Oslo a few times, when our son worked there and remember it being very clean.

It varies considerably. Worst I have seen is in Cairo. In Greece the streets  in the tourist resorts are usually quite clean but there might be a big pile tucked around the corner on an empty site.

Northern Europe is usually best but the UK certainly lets the side down by comparison.

Other places it can depend on the neigbourhood you are in.

Guess your right Colin that they tend to give extra attention to the tourist areas.

                  Hi All,

Here we go !! gone are the days of direct employment by the local councils of operatives or at least very few , all services go to out to tender for the cheapest bid from a private company for maximum profit for the least effort !! Our grass verges are cut with a ride on mower doing 15 mph and look terrible !! Don’t even talk about the privatisation of the utility company’s back in the day 🙁 quite a hot topic here in Kent & Sussex at the moment, thousand’s of houses being built here with no infrastructure to support them 🙁

                  Regards  Ray

                    Tim.

I worked in the Sulatanate of Oman for 7 years.  Cleanest place I’ve ever seen.  No litter, no roadside debris.  If you don’t count the dates falling from the date palms along the roads😁

                    Ray.

Also gone are the days when indicators were used at roundabouts, people held doors open for you, you could get doctors appointments the same day, there were 2 postal deliveries.  Tempus fugit.  And not always for the best.🤨

                    Philip

I still try to hold doors open for people. Sometimes they even look up from their phone as they pass me!

That’s because they are confused and don’t know what you are doing.

Where do they learn to be able to walk and read a screen on a phone? I would be constantly walking into things. On the odd occasion when I get a phone call whilst out I have to stop and move out of anyone’s way to answer it.
