saw this old girl on the hard standing at Fleetwood today.

It is a Nelson 45 and has recently been bought out of service and brought up to Fleetwood as a leisure craft….

Not often you see the Royal Navy come to town.

That will make a cracking leisure boat. Be good fun when you open the throttle as well.

On a slightly different track. Back in the late 1950s and early 60s, the Royal Navy had a fleet of miniature vessels on the inland waterways that were used to aid recruitment. On the Grand Union canal they would appear about three or four times per year, going (in my area) to towns such as Watford and Uxbridge. I have always wondered what became of them.

David. I remember those craft. One, a “nuke” was moored up by my old sea cadet unit in Kingston many years ago. Hull was a narrow boat I think.

Ashley – Possibly 1/2 to 2/3 the full size of a narrow boat which on the G U were up to 70 feet long. I certainly remember the sub.

I remember it looked quite good but I never went on board. It was probably ‘shabby chic’ inside and would have been a disappointment!

The Nuke or a copy was still sailing on the Grand Union in the early to mid 1990's when I had my narrow boat, and sailing around the midlands and north England canals.

Got the shock of my life the first tome I saw her for the first time, aproaching from around a bent on the Cut, lol.
