This may seem a daft question, coming from me?

Having posted several thousand photos already!

Since Win10 was forced on me, last year, the units for setting the picture size have been scrambled

The picture width in Photoshop now reads……43"……..Yes…….43"

Yet, the pictures are still accepted for the Gallery?

Colin…….What should the figure be for the width?

I'm not looking for the Mb figure

      Thank you

      Bob

I think I`ve sorted this out now

A typical photo in the GE Thread is 14" wide or 1024 pixels wide

With a pixel dimension of 2.24 million pixels……..Oldish camera

This is what I was after

The latest oversize photos, using Win10 settings are……

          43" wide! or 3136 pixels

          Pixel dimension……21 million…….Digilux camera

Blimey!…..No wonder my Emails took ages to send!

This doesn`t explain why ModelBoats Gallery accepted them, when there was supposed to be a size limit in operation?………Come in Colin

            Bob,

I don't manage the IT technicalities I'm afraid but I think that the website will automatically resize your photos. The problem lies with sending very large files over the internet. They take much longer to send and can cause the connection to have indigestion and time out. So it is always best to resize files before sending them. 500kb will give an acceptable screen image.

              Hello Colin

              What size of photograph is 500kb?…………L X H ?

Would the square root of 500 give the size of a square photo?

What size of photo do you use?

I use 600 x 800 and they are usually in the range 250-350 kb.

I looked at some of your photos, as a guide

I vaguely remember that for magazine pictures, the figure of 1800 springs to mind

Our club Commodore called at the Doncaster Cadma Show last week and was very impressed

There is a short report on the Etherow web site about it

What photo size are you using please?

                    Could it be 14"?

I have been using Microsoft Powertoys Image Resizer ever since it was issued for XP. It now works very well on my Windows 7 and I have herd that it works for some people who have Win 10.

It is a free download from Microsoft or somewhere like Softonic.

                        Thank you Paul

I have no issues with the Photoshop method, I've used it for about ten years at least, if not even longer

The problem I have, is that the photo width was a dimension that I just took for granted and can't remember the exact figure or units

When Win10 entered the equation, the lot went to pot…….Eventually, I toggled a working system, until L questioned the unusually high width figure of 43"

I think I've bottomed it now

                        Many thanks, old chum

Just for your amusement and a Photoshop Demo

These photos are the reason for the threads creation…….They are 43" wide !

ModelBoats gallery has accepted them, but it took quite a long time, but it does prove that the system will accept any size of photo

We went for a walk the other day and took two single photos

I`ve combined them to make a pleasing picture

Looks good but you missed a bit near your leg and the handbag as it looks like the park bench morphs into your leg.

Like Paul I also use image resizer with no issues, can resize 1000 pictures in 4 minutes as I do after the convention… Not sure photo-shop can..

Bob,if you check the info for those pics, it tells you the resultant size.

                              The one I checked is 550px × 461px (pixels).

Mayhem I generally go to 1108 x 831 which is approx 171kb, More than adequate for what I put up., I think that is the size I go for on here as well

Large files sometimes take too long to view and slows the system down if too many of them

I've never used 'inches' to measure images on a computer, don't know anyone who does except yourself.

Every forum I've ever posted on uses pixels to quote sizes, plus every art programme I have used let's the user measure using pixel counts (MS Paint, Paint, Paintshop Pro & Photoshop), so have always used a pixel count.

Using your figures, it would appear that there are roughly 73 pixels to the inch. laugh

                                                      Paul,

In this context, I'm more inclined to think that "Picas" refers to the typographical unit of measure called pica, see **LINK**. Furthermore, as it is on a computer, it seems most likely to me that it refers to the PostScript rather than the French or American pica.
