      Paul

When you feel up to it………………..Tell us about the 18 foot model you`re building!

I`ve just spotted your mention of it, in another thread.

      Post a few pictures please

If you have a look on "YOU TUBE"  there`s a few giant Queen Mary`s etc ships built from MATCHSTICKS and they`re 25 foot long! ….they look quite hideous really, but you`ve got to admire his enthusiasm!

There was a chap from the Southport club, who also made some really splendid giant size models.

      When your ready….no rush

      All the best…………Bob

        Hello Bob

The monster Titanic is in sections at the back of the workshop and will remain there for at least the next 6 months, sorry old boy but I have no photos of the build.

I started the monster some time ago with the intention of sailing it on the local canal (which would have been fun) but since then we have had our discussion about free flooding hulls and I have come to realise that I have missed a trick in the construction of this craft as, under her present state, she will require a lot of ballast to get down to the water line.

I have been thinking about introducing a watertight deck at the orlop level and letting the lower hull become free flooding……but this is a long way off and I might just sell the dam thing.

        Thanks for the question

        Take care

        Paul

Blimey Paul………….It would have taken a massive amout of ballast!………..200lb and I`m guessing

Get Jane on the job………Cut her bottom off!………..No!, not Jane`s!……….The model!

How far did you get with the build?

          Take it easy!…………….Bob

            Hello Bob

The intended ballast was water that would be pumped into tanks within the hull after she was launched and conversely pumped out before retrieval.

The other problem with a model this big is transport, dispite the fact that she is sectionalised (which is mainly for storage) she still would need a trailer for transport and launch.

I have got as far as the hull and small sections of the superstructure.

I caught the "Titanic" bug when I first saw the film Raise the Titanic and since then I have built a few small scale models but always wanted to build a really big version just like the one used in the film, the only exception is that mine is ply and not steel.

              Hi John

Thanks for the pm and in answer to your question I hadn’t seriously thought about selling the Titanic however if I were to then the price would be £1500. (in present condition) £3000 for completed floating hull and upperworks or £7500 for the fully completed model with all motors, electronics etc and inc custom built road/launching trailer. (£8000 for delivery and full demonstration / tuition within the mainland UK)

But as I have already said I am unable to do any further work on this model for at least 6 months.

I have e mailed more details direct to you.

              Paul

I have yet to see a 25 foot match stick. Telegraph poles and Cabers spring to mind

                  Sorry….  Mike D

                  Hello Mike

Sorry but you have lost me there, I don’t build in matchsticks as I haven’t got the patience you must be thinking of Ken..or have I missed your point??

In a previous contribution to this thread, Bob Abell mentioned  models  made from matchsticks, and they’re 25 feet long quote, and I just saw the funny side, because English, she is a funny language
