I at last have my latest project about ready to fit a motor and prop.
      I haven't settled on a motor but am considering a 50mm 3 or 4 bladed prop.

The model is of a tanker to my own design size 1350 length ; 265 beam and will be running on around 100 draft; this is to compensate for the expected weight of around 14/15kg (variable at the moment!). It is built double thickness plank and given a grp outer skin

      Would appreciate any thoughts

I would be inclined to use a geared motor like this one **LINK** running on 12 volts. My Envoy was a broadly similar size and weight and used a 70mm 4-blade prop with a 12v 10AH battery as supply. It would cruise sedately all day on a single charge.

            Hi

i have had endless success with models of this size using a 545 motor. They have a five pole motor for torquey low revs. I would also recommend a 3/1 reduction, particularly for your 50 ml prop.. There are several ways of doing this but in my opinion by far the best is a toothed timing belt. No noise, and very efficient.

Look at https://sdp-si.com/eStore/Catalog/Group/342# for a start. The GT2 belts and pulleys are great. The pulleys will need to match your shafts and motor so a little machining may be required.

            See how you go!

Thanks for the help guys. I had thought about gearing but was not sure about the prop size. Looks like it should be ok
