Richard – I haven’t read it in detail yet but thanks for your article on applying lettering.

It’s something I need to do at some point and have read the odd reference to it but it’s good to have an article to refer to.

Thanks Chris, I find it is one of those topics that has become the subject of a lot of confusion over the years, mainly spread by the internet.  Sometimes these things just need clarifying and simplifying so people can cut out all the clutter.  I’m amazed at how many different ideas there are regarding the use of Microsol and Microset, when the bottom line is very simply that they are both the same stuff but Microsol is a good bit stronger. For many applications Microset is all you need.

Just got my issue and read it this morning. Very useful article on a topic which a lot of us find quite tricky.

              Hi All,

This month’s issue that I picked up this morning is very good despite not having one of my designs as the free plan 🙂

Especially liked Mike East’s trawler trawler article , well done Mick 🙂

It’s a shame there isn’t any model yacht racing coverage these day’s as I think it’s keeping a lot of clubs afloat with DF65’s and 95’s it is the case at the two clubs I belong to in Kent.

              Regards Ray

A while back Paul Freshney when Editor made considerable efforts to engage the model sailing community without any real success. Since then the Model Powerboat people have lost interest in the magazine also. I think that just reflects the fact that Model Boats no longer has any attraction for competitive model boating which back in the 70s and 80s occupied many of its pages. Model boating has separated into its various niches and the magazine is now catering for scale, semi scale and miscellaneous model RC model boating.

Maybe this reflects the decline of competitive model boating to club level when it used to be National. Discuss!

                  Hi Colin,

Yes I agree obviously, but mainly because of the disconnect between the editorial lack of knowledge of the hobby and lack of engagement to expand the scope of the magazines contents 🙁

Competition with the scale modelling sections as in past years ago has long gone. Competition sailing however I think has never been stronger 🙂

Cygnets club at Mote Park Maidstone have a very strong IC and fast electric section and racing 🙂

I have made various invitations to my club at Bluewater , but alas to no avail .

                  Regards   Ray

Mayhem is very ‘up and down’ at the moment. It was OK most of the time yesterday but seems to be having problems again today. It could be under attack by bots but Martin hasn’t said anything so far. It has been like that for a week or two now.

Thanks Ray , it’s my first foray into artical writing and I thoroughly enjoyed doing it . My next build is a scratch build tramp steamer which I’m going to document from start to finish and hopefully Lindsey will consider it for publication.

Just got around to reading your article Mick, very good and the model looks great. My scratch built tramp steamer Reculver is now around 50  years old and still operational. It started off as a Victorian Union Castle liner but the superstructure ultimately got a but shabby. I therefore discarded the upperworks and rebuilt the model as a tramp in a larger scale.

Looks the business Colin I’m aiming for a smaller coastal steamer with the superstructure construction at the rear.

Ships from that period seemed to have such a wealth of character about them.
