Well i fancied scratch building a fishing boat so i put a thread on here asking if there were any plans lurking around , Neil  replied with plans for the Altair , a scottish pelagic boat and for a small donation to charity they arrived at my door , nice plans too all 10 sheets of them ! the model will be a little over 5 feet long and has a lot of detail, so im off to buy the ply tomorrow then i can get started cutting the keel and frames will put a build log kind of thing on here if your interested

        Regards Andy

i’m looking forward to it, andy……..good luck……..have you thought of making it into a plug, and taking a mould from it to sell a few.

Yes that thought had crossed my mind as i plan to build the hull and get it nice and smoooooooooooth then use it to make a plug then do a moulding to build the rest onto as i think it would make into a better hull , then i spose if anybody wanted one well the plug will be there !    Regards Andy

              RE selling the hulls ,

Would i have to get permission from somebody ? if so who would that be ?

I don’t think so, andy……you hsave built it from plans supplied, you have done the work by building it, and the copyright to the work is yours, so long as you don’t supply, or charge for the plans.
if the company hadn’t wanted models made from their plans, they wouldn’t have supplied them in the first place.
                my understanding anyway.

Sounds reasonable enough really doesnt it ?

how are things going up your way ? weather is terrible down here , gales of wind ! ply being delivered this afternoon so i will make a start tracing out the keel and frames this evening (wife permitting) and start cutting tomorrow as you say tho its not the building of the hull thats complicated just time consuming its the deck machinery thats going to take some working out , i cant seem to find any deck shots of that kind of vessel so will keep looking maybe theres a book out there somewhere that is about that kind of fishing so would have some relevant pictures in it .So if you have any ideas i will be glad to hear them , do you fancy a f/g hull of her then ? may need a bigger car lol I really dont know why i take on these kind of builds maybe its because you are very unlikely to see another one like it or maybe its the banging my head up against the workshop wall that i enjoy lol but it will be good to get this one started , im still working on my cygnus sf 33 but thats not a bad thing as i can work on that while glues etc are drying on the altair build then it will be either peader elaine or a beam trawler as i like to have more than 1 on the go as it all adds to a happy marriage , if i aint indoors i cant do anything wrong and she does keep me well supplied with coffee etc when im in the workshop so its all good lol

i have a wodge of photos in the workshop somewhere, but it’s in such a tip at the moment i cant find them…..as soon as i get rid of the boat i’m working on next week i’ll have a look.they were taken onboard her in lerwick some years ago before she was lengthened, and show mucho detailo.
i’ll send em on as soon as located.
                    neil.
weather wet and windy, but nowhere near as bad as about 25 miles north of us, where there is wide scale flooding, poor sods.
i’m lucky in living nowhere near the river.

Thanks Neil im making the frames out of heavier ply than i would normally use as im basicly building a plug , gave your post a bit more thought and have decided to make the plug then do myself a f/g hull and maybe sell a few who knows  so i will be taking lots of pictures to keep your good self up to speed and also would turn into a useful construction guide once i start on the rest for anybody that wanted a hull , this ship really has got beautiful lines ! cutting the frames is an absolute pleasure so i am really looking forward to putting her together

I saw a picture of your new tug in the model boats mag this month , looks a nice build !
                                Regards Andy

I’ve just finished the boat I was mocking up as a quick build for a friend to do some research on so have had a look in the  workshop and found the photos that were given to me….there aren’t as many as I thought but they are of detailing shots of the deck machinery and such so if you pm me your address I’ll put them in an envelope and post off on monday. will scan them first and if the post office loose them will have a back up. neil.

Ive been out to the workshop this morning and finished cutting the frames , as you can see there is plenty of them ! it took a 8ft x 2ft sheet of ply to get this far and trust me when i say i have only small bits of it left but it should be worth it in the end I HOPE !

Glad you think its going to be interesting , thats what i thought , you just dont seem to see models like this around very much , i am very much looking forward to the electrics side of this build as she has 2 thrusters 1 fwd and 1 aft as well as 2 deck cranes that could be made to turn but thats a long way off lol
