For upcoming build projects, I am seriously interested in a couple of the kits from Metcalf Moudlings.

However, I've noted that the website address (**LINK**) that David Metcalf advertises in Model Boat every month does not seem to be in use any longer — it just takes one to a web domain holding/sales page.

A quick google, though, does turn up a website for Metcalf Moudlings, at **LINK**.

Does anoyone here know whether this is the current and valid website for Metcalf Mouldings, and in particular if the contact information given there (phone: 01920 438686, e-mail: [email protected] or [email protected]) is correct?

Also, would anyone happen know wether it is usually better to try to get in touch by phone or by e-mail and, if the latter, if one of the two e-mail addresses mentioned above is preferable to the other?

      Many thanks in advance,

      /Mattias

How best to get in touch with David Metcalf?

It was reported earlier this year that Dave was retiring and selling the business but I don't know what the current situation is.

Contacting by phone would be the best method.

            Thanks, Colin!

Alas!, I just tried to ring the number in question, but got an automated voice saying it is no longer in use … Bother!

Try contacting Models by Design. I think Andy took over many of Dave's moulds when he retired. **LINK**

                Dave,

That might indeed be worth a try, although I think that they "only" took over the hull part of the business, and that the kits I'm interested in (Moonbeam and RNLB Alice Upjohn to be precise) have still been profduced and sold by David Metcalf himself. In any case, the Models by Design website doesn't list any of the Metcalf Mouldings kits as far as I can see.

That said, I dare say that the people at Models by Design might know summat, so if I don't get any response to tyhe e-mail I've just sent to David Metcalf, I might just give them a shout and ask …

                /Mattias

I am delighted to be able to report that I got a reply via e-mail from David Metcalf very quickly indeed!

In this, he told me that he has semi-retired, and sold most of his kits to another company. He does, however, still produce and sell the Moonbeam kit, in which I was primarily interested, and I have consequently just put in an order with him for one such kit

Sounds like his retirement is a bit like mine – patchy at best!

Like me you will never fully retire until the Gods let you.

Tony Green Steam Models now sale several of the Metcalf kits including the Alice Upjohn. They were on display earlier in the year at either the CADMA, Doncaster or Model Engineering, Harrowgate show. I believe MBD have the non kit GRP mouldings.

Thank you very much, Duncan, for that most helpful piece of information!
