I was browsing a model catalogue about a month ago and I`m sure I was looking at the M1 and remember the nice quality of the build in the magazine……………and it was built by Paul Freshney

This is news to me I didnt know that there had been three of them as I only know of the one that was sunk by SS Vidar in 1925 whilst on exersises in the channel. I am specifically interested in the one that sank.

Hi Paul, M2 was converted to a seaplane carrying sub after the war and M3 into a minlelayer.  M1 was apparently re-discovered off Start point in1999 by Innes McCartney who wrote an Osprey title on WWI subs in which there’s a picture of M1 wearing her late war camouflage scheme.

Hi All,

The TV program was repeated on the History channel last week.  I was channel hopping at the time and just caught the end of it.

I think you will find that John Lambert has done  several drawings of submarines including the M1.  If I remember correctly these were to accompany articles published in Military Modelling magazine back in the Seventies.

I can’t find the information that I am looking for, namely a set of plans/blueprints, on the web which is why I have turned to the massed resource of our membership.

Like everyone else I have seen the tv programme documenting the discovery of the wreck which whilst it was a very absorbing story gave very little usable information. 

I shall continue my hunt.

Thank you for the John Lambert lead, I have found a copy of his drawing on a web site and have downloaded it into my CAD programme so now I can make a set of building templates.

Hi Paul,

Last night I had a root through some boxes of old magazines and I turned up the articles by John Lambert.  There was a series of six on British submarines in 1976 and it included both the M class and the K class.  It seems the M class used K class hulls.

If it is of any use to you I can let you have copies of the articles.  PM me if you want them.

Dear All 

Alas the sectional drawing of the M1 that I downloaded has pixilated on the CAD programme so I am stuck again.

Has anyboby got or knows of a set of engineering drawings for the "M" class of submarine or even a drawing of the "K" class which I might be able to adapt.

Hi Paul,

You have obviously not read my earlier post.

I have now found the original magazine articles for the M Class and the K Class. 

I can scan these and send you copies if you can let me have your e-mail address.

I aslo have a the  paperback book on the K Class submarines which I bought at a car boot sale but that is a bit on the large side to scan.
