Logging in problems

Some members, including me today, have had problems logging in recently. I reported it to webmaster Andy Hill who has given the advice and update below.

I found that Ctr+F5 cleared the problem for me on the affected pages without the need to go further.

It sounds like a similar issue to something we were having a while ago.

It appears to happen if you login, then out, then in again, so it probably happened for you because your session expired.

It appears to be an issue with Cookies not closing sessions correctly.

When it happened to me just now, a simple hard refresh of the Forum page after logging in sorted it (Ctrl+F5)

If that doesn’t work for you, clearing the cookies for Model Boats and cache for all sites should sort this (you can do it for all sites too, it will just log you out of everywhere).

In FireFox, Chrome, or whichever browser you are using, go to the browser settings and search for Cookies, in FireFox select Manage Data, in Chrome select Third-party cookies, then See all site data. Then search for modelboats.co.uk and delete this from the list.

That should get everything back to normal. If it doesn’t, try removing all cookies and clear the browser cache and restarting the browser, alternatively using a Private/Incognito window will get around it for that session.

We still need to move the site from it’s current server to the one model-engineer is on which will give us full hosting support to get bugs like this fixed easier, we hit some technical issues when I last looked at it a few months ago and another big project came up so I’ve not got back to it yet, but we hope to do it soon.
