Jolie Brise is a French Pilot Cutter built in 1913 and used today as a sail training boat winning Tall Ship’s races.

18 months ago I stepped on board the Jolie Brise in Hamble to measure up and photograph. The underwater plans were found in a book and formed the basis of the 1/10 scale drawings. The previous 1/50 and 1/20 drawings were useful but inconsistant.

Drawing the stern bulwark details defeated me (trained draughtman) so it was built from basic dimensions, the photos and how it felt. The 3d shape turned out to be logical.

Planking and painting have taken for ever.  The next taks is to design the Main Sail winch, the sheet is 6.2m long. That what comes from buildig big.

Goto my website to see the hull’s shape on video and full constructional details.
Plus online calculators for deck camber, sail drum diameters, Wind loads at different heights, lead ballast density….

The plans need to be corrected. The deck fitting are drawn as I make them
I have a cd/dvd of  Jolie Brise phots and I am in the process of getting permission to publish them, copyrights.

Anybody interested in taking off a GRP mould?
