I have received some advice from a friend, re my Huntress scratch build. The problem is I just do not understand what I am being told! Here is the extracted info:

“…wanting a quicker boat..etc… why not go brushless in the huntress? Get the best of classic lines…but with more oomph. The only external mod is a slightly wider side rail…where the hull sides meet the lower hull..start at stern and go forward till the bow shape takes over…..apparently this is to help stabilise the hull and give sharper accuracy on turns.”

        Can anyone enlighten me please

Ignore it. There's always some clever beggar who thinks he knows better than the designer. In this case the designer was Alan Burnard and they don't get better than that. All I did was copy his lines. If you have any reservations about how the model performs then check out the You Tube video here (Huntress from 7:22 in). **LINK**

Anyway, the Huntress as drawn and built is powered by a brushless motor, so I really don't understand the point. Indeed I wonder if the bloke has actually done this modification himself. His use of the word "apparently" is a large hint that he either hasn't or that he doesn't understand the reason for it – or maybe both!.   IMHO there's only one thing sadder than an under-powered Fairey model, and that's one that's grossly over-powered.

            Dave,

He’s not trying to be over smart. The story is I was telling him my sailing history with the cabin cruiser (Diva) and just mentioned that although it sails nicely it is a bit staid after awhile and I have a desire, eventually to build something with a bit more go. He knew I was about to embark (get the nautical term thrown in there!) on a Huntress and I think he thought I wanted to speed that model up,. I don’t.

It turns out he meant spray rails, he has just informed me.

            Cheers, and thank you.

Spray rails? What a good idea! There might just be some on there already…wink

Ah but Dave we had the benefit of access to the plan eh.

Anyway it’s all clear now, and rest assured I am building to your plan
