HMS Plymouth leaves for scrap

It was a sad but inevitable to see the old type 12 HMS Plymouth erstwhile historical ship berthed at Birkenhead for a number of years being towed to Turkey for scrap. There was little chance of the Plymouth defying the cutters torch as there was no home available for the vessel to continue the role as an RN Falklands veteran.

What happened to the sub berthed along side ?

Hi Larry the submarine HMS Onyx was moved from the former Birkenhead Historic ships site in June 2006 to Barrow -in Furness . Latterly the Onyx was moved to Rosneath jetty in Scotland pending scraping , sad as both HMS Plymouth and Onyx where Falklands veterans .Only the Ton class minesweeper HMS Bronington remains from the original Historic Warships .The now half sunken LST Landfall whilst part of the trust was not open to the public .
