      Hi All,

I thought I would share my latest build… its been slowly plodding away.

it is a 1/72 scale model of the light fleet carrier Glory.

the model is 9' 8" long I acquired the hull and mouldings from a company in England. when it arrived I was at work and the delivery man asked my wife if we ordered a canoe.

The original plan was to build HMS Ocean but after some input from my wife it became Glory or as she calls it Gloria….

these pictures were how i got the hull.

I decided to install 2x Brushless motors in it. I needed to add about 70Lb of ballast made up mostly of steel square sash weights to make it easier to fit at the pond side.

on its first outing to see if the ballast was enough but there was ice on the pond from the night before

Whew Colin! Almost 10 British feet long! That’s a whopper.

Our man Noel at Bushy has an 8 foot carrier on the go, and we thought that was big….

I needed to cut out the openings around the hull, some for ships boats others for walkways and the quarter deck

the black line was for guidance when I was ballasting it, it isn't the final waterline.

I found that the superstructure moulding was not correct.. I decided then to build my own

you can see the difference between them here.

yes it is a bit on the big side but it does have a presence on the water

from the flight deck the top of the mast will be 23"

more work on the superstructure sit slowly gets detailing, also the deck is being fixed and levelled which hopefully will be sorted soon.

After about 3 months and a lot of filling and sanding i managed to level the main deck.

its been a bit of a task but I’m glad its over.

I also managed to get a coat of primer on it and took it too the Blackpool show.

Worth the effort though.  A lovely flat surface to build on with detail and effects.

                        Thanks Richard

I agree a flat deck is a must but if I had to do this again cutting the old GRP deck off may have been the better option… but it’s done now and I now have a flat deck

I haven’t done as much as I was hoping but I managed to make the 281 radar that sits on the rear mast of the superstructure and cut out the new hatch covers for the deck

I also managed to get a 3D file and printed the seaplane handling crane too

Lovely detail on that crane and a nice spot of soldering on the radar.  Is that going to have a gauze fitted?

                              Thanks Richard,

no strangely that is the design of the radar, the U shaped part at the top was an optional antenna for early IFF

                                a quick up date and I found a bit of a disaster…
the funnel was too big on the length but the height and width were ok.
the length was pushing the director tub over the top of the rear PomPom gun and it just looked wrong…. so I a friend print me a new funnel and made the supports for the director tub.
I have also started fitting the railings, ladders and other details

started painting the superstructure and it has the feeling of the model coming together… still to finish the mast but its getting there
