HMS Endurance A171 Royal Navy

HI,  I am desperately looking for any plans which are available for the above vessel, if anyone knows of an existing kit or semi kit which can be modelled into the Red Plum.  Her hull and single shaft is quite unique being a Class 1 A1 ice breaker.  I am very interested in modelling her and would very much appreciate a head start – i would be very grateful for any information supplied to me.

Pete. As the boat was not built for the RN initially, you may be best looking for plans of the original vessel before being taken into service, for the hull, anyway, and then modifying the topworks to suit. I would have though there would be several very similar vessels made by the shipyard.

The M/V polar circle was built by Ulstein, you could send them an email and ask them for information.  i guess they can give out the drawings of General Arrangement

There is also a very similar model, I suspect also by Julian Glossop, in the Britannia Royal Naval College at Dartmouth. I have quite a few photos of it.

Can't help with plans though.

Have you thought of producing your own plans?

With access to sufficient photos and a bit of basic research it is not to difficult to produce a set of basic construction drawings.

I have done that and built a 1:200 of the Rhodesia Castle with just photos. But I found the experience a bit unnerving, becasue i could never know if what i was building as in the least bit accurate. With plans, you have a good beginning, (hopefully) then i back it up with photos. Like I did with a recent SS Canberra, where I found some outstainding images on the web. One of my better attempts, i think.
