Gentlemen, I am an old guy in my mid eightiesgone back to modeling to occupy my time and I have commited the cardinal sin, that being putting coats of enamel on the hull of a Billing Zwarte Zee after acrylic primer surfacer.  I fear that using stripper will virtually melt or misfigure the hull itself and of course sanding is just bringing up little marbles of paint.  Have I lost out completely or is there a solution ?  others must have done this before me.

          Hello Jag

          Could be your lucky day?

Give your hull a quick rub down and cover it with card plates, with lovely rivets showing!
          Will look very authentic too

Hi Bob,  many thanks for the information, are these plates available pre stamped and cut and which supplier ?  I am an Old Pom living in Rural Australia and ship whatever needed from The Old Country.
I have just looked through the thread on your present build and I bow to your workmanship, absolutely brilliant !!!!

              Hello Roy

              It`s only thick card!……..about 0.015″ thick

Cut with scissors and punch through the back for the rivets…….Easy…use a blunt nail!

Use PVA but keep pressing the card down…till the glue takes hold

              Post a picture…………..Bob

                Cheers Bob,

Shows how green I am and you make it sound so simple but I don`t have your expertise.

My interest over the past 50 years has been the restoration of classic cars but  now with age and the disease which we all dread I just can`t swing the spanners any more, hence having a go at a boat.

I àm not likely to make things any worse I suppose,so come next week I will have a go and send a couple of pics.  Must try to guess at the size of a plate at this scale of 90.1

                with respect,   Roy.

                  Hello Roy

                  I would guess about ………6`-0″ x 2`-0″… in real life……at 90.1 = 0.8″ x 0.25″…….Didn`t realise it was so small!

So cheat a bit and make them…..1″ x 3/8″…….Leave out the rivets……..and use about 0.010″ card……………..You will need to spoon the plates on the curvy areas

You could on long flatish areas, use long stripsof card and score across to simulate the plates?

Start on an easy area first, to see if you like the effect…….and to give you the enthusiasm to finish the job!

I like old cars………Post a few pictures please?

                  Bob

                        Stephen,

It looks like the plan description has not been updated. The hull would have been available when the plan was published, sometime during the 1990s probably, but is no longer offered by MyHobbyStore. Maybe someone on the Forum might remember who produced it so it would be possible to track down what happened to the mould.

The Plans Service has passed through several changes of ownership since the 1990s and records have been lost so it is unlikely that there is anyone at MyHobbyStore able to assit with your query.

                        Colin
