Having nearly finished my E Boat i was scratching around for a new challange i came across an old set of plans for Rodney/Nelson drawn up by C.Bingham so i thought i would give it a go .They are good plans but only show a single prop run from an ORBIT 505 or KAKO 4 .I would like to get all turrets turning as this would be a good efect .When finished it will be 3ft long ,3 inches deck to hull and a 5 1/4" beam and i am lookingforward to getting it all done and on the water

I would like to go with 2 motors to be honest not sure about motor size , any suggestions ?? , i would like to fit a pair of 35mm props aas i have these in my " odds and sods " box and fit them on to a pair of Graupner shafts , again in my " odds and Sods" box .I would like the turrets to turn through a 180 degre arc , turning one way they turn the 4 inch secondry through 90 degrees and turn them the other way they turn the opposite side through a 90 degree arc .I plan to use an Expo turntable mtorising set that i picked up in a model shop here in cardiff that was closing down , this i inintend to conect to the centre turret and use it to power the others .Any sugestions on this ashley , any help would be much appreciated .

            Thanks

Andy. A pair of 385 for a model this size would be ok I recon, and cheap. run on 6 or 7.2v easy no probs for a 35mm prop. my 4 foot Titanic runs three x 385 on 6v.Ashley.. nb turrets no suggestions, ganging up to a servo easiest but under-deck access an issue.. unless you make the whole deck removeable?

Before starting to build I would recommend a few simple 1:1 sketches of the hull including all of the equipment (motors, batteries, servos etc) just to make sure that everything fits in and that it can all operate as anticipated.

All of that equipment sounds heavy for such a small model. I'd suggest installing just the motors, batteries and speed controller(s) first and then seeing how much space and freeboard you have left. I can thoroughly recommend the Low Noise version of the MFA 385 – very quiet and takes little current with greater torque c/w the standard version **LINK**

Gentlemen and Ladies of course where are my manners ??? As i have said the plan i have got is a 3 ft hull so i reckon i would like to increseasdeit to 5ft so what is the percentage that i have to increase tjhe drwing by ???? 50% is 4 1/2 feet so would it be 60 or 65 % ????

Andy. No idea, too much hard thinking this early, but at 5 feet one would expect to see 4 shafts. And 555 motors. No skimping please. Ashley

4 shaftes on a Nelson class? Shame on you Ashley!

                        Andy,

It sounds like you may have the old MAP plan. I would agree with the others that you will probably experience difficulties in getting all the turret training gear into a hull of that size unless you are a whizz at miniaturisation. On the other hand, a 5 foot version would be quite a heavy and unwieldy model and may give you transport problems. The 'will it go in my car' test determines the size of many models and in this case you could consider going up to 133% of the plan size (adding a third) to give you a 4 foot model which will more readily accommodate the internal gubbins and still be a manageable size.

Colin i shasll bow to your superior knowledge !!! 4ft sounds good but 133% makes it sound very VERY big but i shall go hot footed to my local copy shop in the morning and get the plan enlatged .

I have got the plans from NEXUS plans service in Hemel Hempstead and cannot rember how long i have had them for but niow with more knowledge and expierience behinnd me i will give it my best shopt .

                          Manby thanks to al
