For Ron Charter of USA and others seeking information

There are no plans available for this model

There is an excellent card model 39" long, available from Marcle Models and is a good source of info

Further info to follow as available

      Bob

          If you put

          GREAT EASTERN DRAWINGS

In Google search, there are a few there. Profile, decks etc. It was not all that complicated, just very big. I think I have a set of plans lying around somewhere, but can't put my hand on them at the moment.

            Thank you, Bob

I contacted the Maritime Museum before starting, but they wanted something like £300 for four or five sheets, not knowing if they were up to date!

So I used Jeanie Deans plans by Alex Thompson as a starting point and modified to suit

The Marcle card model is probably the most accurate version to use as a starting point

I also found a plastic kit of GE on the net, where all the pieces were laid out flat

Knowing the length and width of the full size ship, it was possible to calculate the cabin sizes etc

                For Richard Barnett

Regards to Paul T and Ashley

The build started life in the good old days of 2007 and faded away for a few years

The project was awakened from it's deep slumber in 2011, when Colin Bishop was contacted by the BBC

They wanted a model of the Great Eastern for a TV Coast Programme, dealing with the Atlantic Cable laying era in 1865

I'll post a link to the epic story, shortly

                Regards Bob Abell
