Glen Rosa Rudder System and Electrics

Hi,

First of all I’d just like to say hello, as this is my first post here.  Im not really up on the internet and dont own a PC, so my son is helping me out here. 

 Im a scratch builder and I have a couple of questions about my current project the paddle steamer Glen Rosa.  I have the plans but still need a bit of help.

Firstly, my plans dont show the rudder assembly and Im not really sure how I want to proceed here..  Am I missing something from my plans?  If not can someone help me out with some suggestions or details of how this was done in the magazine build by John F Gray?.  This is my first paddle steamer and Im a bit concerned about getting a good turning circle.

 Secondly Im not very electrically minded and would like to reproduce the controls and effects (smoke/sound) system as per the magazine build series.  Can anybody supply me with a schematic or drawing for this.

Hello Ken

I`m not really an expert on paddle boats………but I have made three models.

Wilton Castle had independent drives to each paddle wheel and didn`t really need a rudder…However. the Captain of the real boat is a member of our club and he recommended two barn door rudders.

Jeanie Deans is 78" long and needed a larger  rudder that that shown on the plan and is also fitted with independent drives

Great Eastern….( take a look at my GE gallery)…..has one motor driving both paddles…….the rudder is quite ineffective unless the prop is driving

Having said all that……if a rudder is not shown on the plan…….it doesn`t need one?………..But leave room for one to be fitted later on!
