      Dear All

The new season of shows kicks off in the North West with the popular Ellesmere Port event at the Boat Museum on 3rd & 4th March

Who is going to brave the cold and turn out for a chat over a brew?

      Paul

          Paul,

Are you sure the event is going to take place? From what has been said on the other well known forum, I thought that this years show had been cancelled.

            Hi Gareth

Thanks for the warning, I haven't heard anything about it being cancelled but I will try and find out.

Check with Larry "Long Build" Richards, whose club historically has had a lot to do with the organisation and running of this event. I'm 99.99% sure that he advised it was not going to happen this year. The March show in Coalville has also been cancelled due to lack of support, so it's looking pretty thin as far as shows in early 2018 go.

No it isn't on. Looks like the new management at the museum have managed to get their unmentionables in a spiral. See this thread on Mayhem.

This is really disappointing is there any information about why it has been cancelled?

I think you can read between the lines on the Mayhem thread Paul.

I was talking to the ex chairman of the club mostly associated with putting on the show for many of its years, at New Brighton lake just after new year,

and he says the new management basically wanted shut of the show and made it difficult for the club, removing the storage facilities of their large docks, tankers and such, and other none helpful re organising and reduction of show areas, and generally just being unhelpful…………and as such the club decided to pull the plug and to seek elsewhere for the future.

it's sad, for the club and sad for modellers all………….I have been going off and on for the last 20 years and always enjoyed the show, but you could see the decline in recent years as decline in exhibits and people became apparent……………and last year was a big nail in the coffin when the lease holder decided to close the café eatery at the same time of the show instead of the closed season for refurbishment, and the only outlet for refreshments was a burger van………….with not the greatest of over inflated priced half edible burgers and dry tasteless on tap from Aldi cheap range chips……….the lack of queues said it all, lol.

Which makes it more interesting by the fact that the Museum contacted a few traders at the back end of last year about putting on the show, However did not as far as I am aware contact any Clubs !! and then early this year said due to lack of interest decided not to put it on this year. They were given a list of all regular Traders and clubs…
