I owned a luxemotor motor barge in mainland Europe and lived and cruised on it for 5 years. I am building my fist scratch build model of my luxemotor 1:24 scale, she will be radio controlled. For my next project I want to build a 1:24 scale Tjalk Dutch barge (snub nosed bow) but I can't find any plans. Can anybody help me please? I want to build the Tjalk as a radio controlled sailing barge.

Peter, I've searched all the barge sites I know without any luck. I know one of my AMBO colleagues built the Dutch Royal barge/yacht and I will see him in January at the London MEX. I'll asked him, he's dutch as well so may have contacts too as he was a merchant skipper in his day job.

BUT I did find this, mad dutchmen racing barges from the 1960s – somewhat off the scale for usual sedate sailing!

          Aye, Kimmo

About 13 minutes long, with some odd music.

            Hello Peter

I don't know much about Dutch Barges but I do remember seeing this website **LINK** which has these drawings

I don't know if this is any help but the site might provide some further clues.

That's a nice boat, Paul… but not a Tjalk in a looong way. By my knowing a Tjalk is a flat-bottom, round bilge boat whereas this is a Vee-bottom with additional chine. Also, tjalk is a sailing vessel.

You might want to give the archive of the dutch model builders organization (Nederlandse Vereniging van Modelbouwers) a go, they have an extensive archive of all kinds of model plans which they print on demand. They are paid plans, though.

I found a plan for a "Groninger Tjalk" there already, page three for sailing ships: http://www.modelbouwtekeningen.nl/epages/64899739.sf/nl_NL/?ViewAction=View&ObjectID=7017874&PageSize=36&Page=3

Do browse a bit there. I think you might find at least inspiration.

Thanks for your help. I will follow the leads given. I would post a copy of my luxemotor but pressing the camera button at the head of this window doesn't find any of my albums.

                  Peter,

To include photos in a post, you must first create an album (click on the button in the top, greyish menubar; the one that appears when you log in), and upload and save the photos there. Then when you click on the camera icon, you will be able to browse your album(s) and select the photos from there.

Beware: if you upload and use a photo in a post, it will disappear from that post if you later delete the album.

                  /Mattias

                    Peter,

have just returned from the London MEX and have had quite a lot of success for you. My Dutch mariner came through with two dutch books which include many varieties of the Tjalk including pictures and simple drawings. Another contact at the Show gave me more dutch contacts and marine sources to search out some plans for you, once we've selected the type of Tjalk wanted.

Send me a PM and I can then pass on some of the detail to you, if still required?

                    Aye, Kim

I'll post some pictures here too so fellow forum members can see the type of craft Peter is discussing.
