Given that the Warwick show is housed in a huge shed in the wilds of Warwickshire with a grass car park I think Paul must be thinking of another venue with which he is more familiar – Cannes perhaps?
However, it is an excellent model boat show and not to be missed while the steak and kidney pie is to die for, especially in view of the portions served….
The online entry for the competition is indeed for subscribers only but if you buy the October edition of Model Boats there is an entry form on page 7 which anyone can use. Except Bob of course as employees and paid contributors to Model Boats are ineligible to enter. I have to pay too but there is a senior citizens rate and a discount if you buy your tickets in advance, see here: **LINK**
The reason that we restrict some online competitions to subscribers only is that for the open competitions we get a lot of entries from 'professional' competition entrants who sell their prizes for what they can get. So, with prizes above a certain value which are model boat orientated, we prefer that they go to genuine model boaters, i.e. subscribers or those who have purchased the magazine.
