Neil. I like that hull,,,very nice. Very reasonable price. I will bookmark that…hmm, yes.
Graupner paddles are nice but very very wide..a bit too wide?.
I had it in mind to make a paddle warship, deck swivel guns, sails and all. A most obscure set of British warships not mentioned in books at all, however there were quite a few and they were heavily used by all accounts. 1820-1860 ish.
Paddles, and I had a thought that, on the basis that only a very small portion of the paddle is seen,,,,…..
one could use a solid disc on the inner face, to which a nice Meccano disc/wheel thing was glued (loads of contact area to glue and a grub screw 4mm fixing for the shaft)
THEN glue on you paddles around the edge….put the shaft through, fit a boss at the outer edge and then make a hoop to connect the outer edges of the paddles together, and finally glue some spokes on and paint..???
OR how about two thin Acrylic discs…similar treatment but disc front and rear.. paddles in between, Meccano on back, fake rim and spokes painted Black, Discs left clear…you wouldnt see the Acrylic especially when wet.. easy to true up…?? well? The paddles on warships were pretty much covered up..no fancy fretwork on the paddle boxes or wotnot.
OR I could purchase a laser cutter and Bob`s your uncle (Blast ..I was going to keep that quiet!).
