I've read various threads and tried several different methods that I might use to

se superstructure on the 'creation' I have ongoing at the moment. Has anyone

tried yacht varnish, give it a scuffing with 2000 grit wet and dry then paint before again a coat of varnish. Or even tried colouring a satin varnish?

          Hello Stephen

My answer would have been sanding sealer but there are new ways to do it. Have a look at the Cossack build thread that Ray has running.

It works for superstructures, too! Finishing wooden hulls

Back in the 1950s some modelers would soak balsa with thinned varnish to stabilise it, but it added no strength and took ages to get a decent finish. You can still do things that way, and it will work, but why bother. This is another of those times to be glad of modern materials.
