Yes Ashley, very ingenious. I had a couple of Heralds myself. The first one I inadvertently set fire to while changing the fuel pump – it was a total write off!

For those who are wondering, Ashley has a very entertaining article in the March issue of Model Boats with his Top Gear sailing Triumph Herald car. Great to see somebody coming up with such an original project.

thank you chaps, very nice of you to say so.

Of all the thing I have made, I am perhaps most proud to float this one on the oggy.

In truth it sails diabolically, it drifts all over the place, needs a stiff wind to go at all and then wallows atrociously, but its not actually a BOAT at all, is it?, . To be honest I really didnt know if it would work when I took it to the pond for the first time. The motor is a life saver, and trouble can be averted quickly by stabbing to full throttle and full left/right rudder.
It is very pretty, the colours sit very nicely on the water, and James waving about is quite fun and gives the whole thing its identity.

I intend to send James May a copy of the mag, if I can find a few, and also a copy on the “Toyboata” issue if any are still around, and the lad might just get a signed photo or something, as he loves the “top gear” program.

I am running out a bit on ideas for “something different” at the moment… but you should see the next one on the stocks !! oo errr….boat??? sort of, but only just….

Hmmmm…… Funny enough I thought about that one. Fabulously easy to make being such a simple shape, and very distinctive.

A simplified “Stingray” is what I HAVE been thinking about for ages. My doodlings stumble on the “ratemaster” propulsion system at the back. A water jet of some sort would fit the bill perhaps but the outer case needs to rotate..and then it really needs to be made out of acrylic….Tricky.

I suppose you could cast the thing from resin, and have a prop in the centre, perhaps and some small vanes in there so it gets turned round by the water rushing through..or should it counter rotate? these are just the sort of problems I like to deal with on a project
