Hi, I've just seen these while looking for model outboards.

it's called 152VO. 1:5.2 scale (Gawd knows why that daft size), vintage wooden outboard racers.

Seems to be mainly German, but they claim members (800)in all countries. Fantastic cameraderie and racing with brushless converted outboards, many of which seem to be built to scale also.

      I'm keen!

          Hi Martin

I have seen the full size boats but not the outboards.

Whilst on holiday in Trearddur Bay (1968) there was a 'round the bay race' involving these little speed boats, although they weren't considered as vintage back then. The outboards were a mixture of Mercury and Johnsons (all new at the time)

I have some b/w photos somewhere

There is a facebook page **LINK** and quite a few German sites devoted to the sport.

Thanks for the response, Dodgy. I didn't expect any at all. I really can't believe these models haven't made news over here. It must be that complete lack of willingness to actually put anything together!

The organisation now over 1000 members! Me amongst them.

Thanks for the link. I was reading it the other day.

I wonder if they'd extend the classes to include R1 inboard to help those who haven't got a model o/b.

I'm already wondering about making my own o/b motor strong enough.

              Martin
