Ant class flatiron – HMS crane

I was wondering if anyone could recommend any books that covered the ant class flatiron gun boats, or any website with some decent images.

Paul Freshney, ex MB Editor, drew up plans for HMS Kite of the Ant class which are available from Sarik.

It should be possible, to track down the issues in which the accompanying article appeared if you are interested.

There are some images in Anthony Preston and John Major's book 'Send a Gunboat' but the photos are small, not very clear and don't show much detail. There is also a small reproduction of the original plan for the class which is rather faded and again not very clear.

An interesting subject. Wasn’t there a build featured in the mag..or was it the now defunct one?

Apparently based on a sort of barge Vickers (?) built to test their big guns out at sea.

Hull was designed to be towed at speed out to theatre by a sloop or whatever (speed being relative here).
